5 Ideas for a Valentine’s Day In
Happy February! It is officially the month of love. Well, I’m not sure about that, but it is the month of Valentine’s Day, which can be a pretty polarizing holiday. Either people love it or mark it up to a Hallmark holiday and aren’t a fan. I fall more in line with the former. It is very easy to get caught up in life and forget to tell those closest to us how much they mean, so I think it is a great reminder to spread a little extra love to those around you.
This year your Valentine’s Day celebration might look a little different, but that doesn’t mean it is any less festive. I’m excited to share some at-home date night ideas with you. If Valentine’s Day is not your thing, you can keep these in your back pocket for future date nights.
At Home Comedy Club
One thing Julian and I have been enjoying throughout the past year is watching stand-up comedy specials on the various streaming services. Chicago is a great city for comedy, and pre-Covid, we liked going to different comedy shows throughout the city. Netflix and Amazon Prime have lots of options with different comedians, and I’m sure Hulu and others do too. Make yourself a drink (or two) and let the laughs begin.
Take a Virtual Cooking Class
A few years ago, we went to a sushi making class and it was so fun! We both walked out of it thinking we would stick to ordering takeout over making it ourselves at home. Regardless, we both had a blast learning the different techniques and rolling our own rolls. While you may not be able to go to a class in person this year, there are plenty of online options for cooking classes. Sur La Table and The Chopping Block both have a variety of virtual classes or YouTube has millions of videos you can watch for free. Find something you want to learn to make and follow along!
Wine + Painting
Wine and painting studios have really gained popularity over the last few years and make for a creative date night. While you might not be able to go in-person right now, you could easily recreate this date at home. Find a picture online, or on your phone, to use as your inspiration, get some canvases (or even paper), some paint and paint away! Open a bottle of wine or mix up your favorite cocktail, paint a canvas together or each paint your own. Either way, you can’t go wrong!
Have a Baking Competition
A fun fact about Julian is that he loves a good cooking or baking competition show. You could have your own Valentine’s Day baking competition at home! Maybe you each try to bake/decorate a cake (box cakes are totally allowed) or cookies or bake your favorite item in 90 minutes or less. Watch Cupcake Wars or The Great British Bake Off to get inspired! Ready? Go!
Cook a fancy dinner together
The dinner doesn’t necessarily have to be fancy, maybe you cook something you have never made before or maybe you make your favorite meal. One of our go-to pizza places has been doing DIY pizza making kits throughout the pandemic, which would be so fun to make together. Light a candle or two and you are all set for a fun, festive night in.
