Mental Health Resources

If you’re like me, it’s impossible to dismiss or ignore all that is going on in our nation and the world. As important as it is to stay informed, it is equally important to not let sensory overload take a toll on your everyday life. Sensory overload occurs when one or more of the body’s five senses – touch, sight, sound, smell, and taste – experience over-stimulation from the environment. With our 24-hour access to social media and news outlets, as well as the daily noise of helicopters or sirens (dependent upon where you live), our sense of sight and sound is being affected in ways we have never experienced before.

If you or anyone you know is experiencing sensory overload, anxiety, depression, mania, or thoughts of suicide, remember that there are resources out there to help you.

With local programs in all 50 states, the American Foundation of Suicide Prevention (AFSP) is one of many organizations providing and sharing resources for everyone. Below are some of the links they have recently shared through their website and social channels.

As most of you are aware, Julie and I are running the Chicago Marathon on AFSP’s Team Hope. We are excited to be running (and fundraising) for a charity that prioritizes mental health and shares resources for all. With every donation, big or small, we get one step closer to our commitment of raising $2,500 for the American Foundation of Suicide Prevention and lowering the stigma of mental health. Help us spread the word that there is always hope, no matter how hopeless a situation may feel.
